1. Quick Overview of operating systems
2. C/C++ programming basics and pointers; 32-bit vs 64-bit
3. Operating System programming essentials, Shell programming
4. POSIX Threads
6. Pipes and Sockets
7. Multiprocessor Operating Systems
8. Case Studies of IBM, CRAY, SGI Origin, Compaq, Sun, HP parallel 
architectures.
9. Misc. Topics

Grading:
1.  Assignments + midterm will be based on C/C++ programming for 35%
2.  Research paper/presentation for 25%
3.  Comprehensive Finals: 30%
4.  Attendance and Class Participation: 10%

Detailed announcements will be made on research paper and presentation 
on the second day of classes.
